TO PROMOTE THE release of the first seriesSurvivors DVD set in October 2003, DD Video commissioned their advertising agency to place advertisements in genre magazines SFX, Dreamwatch, Shivers and TV Zone.
In each case, DD Video approved of the use of a series of three quarter-page ads, running on three subsequent pages in each of the four magazines. Each advert contained a unique slogan — demonstrating DD Video's desire to promote the series in a slightly off-beat, witty and sometimes unexpected way. Unlike the DVD set itself, the print adverts did not use the correct Survivors typeface, but an approximate stencil-style substitute.
According to both the anecdotal evidence — and, more significantly, the reported sales figures — the campaign proved to be a noteable success.
Dreamwatch Issue 110, 2003
Shivers No 107, 2003
TV Zone No 168, 2003
SFX No 110, 2003
Many thanks to Adrian Hulme for providing the scans of the adverts shown here. All twelve ads previously appeared in Grab your Parka, Shotgun & DVD Remote, a fan publication compiled, edited and co-written by Adrian to celebrate the release of the series one DVD.
